2025 Interior Design Trends:

What's In, What's Out, and What's Up for Debate

Interior design is always evolving—what felt fresh a year ago can suddenly feel tired and overdone. As we step into 2025, I'm sharing a look at the trends we're saying goodbye to from 2024 and the ones making a beautiful entrance this year.

Whether you're a homeowner thinking of a refresh, a designer looking for inspiration, or just someone who loves beautiful spaces (hi, kindred spirit!), there's something here for you.

Enjoy—and if any of these “out” trends are still hanging around your home, no judgment! But if you're ready for a refresh, I’d love to help you update with intention.

Farewell, 2024 Trends

Some trends had a great run... but it’s time to move forward.

1. Open Floor Plans

We’re all craving a little more peace and privacy—especially after years of blending work, life, and everything in between. In 2025, defined spaces with doors, dividers, or even clever furniture layouts are taking center stage. They offer better acoustics, more intimacy, and a chance for each room to have its own personality.

2. Accent Walls

It’s official: accent walls are over. Instead, we’re embracing color drenching—painting the walls, trim, and sometimes even the ceiling in one rich, bold hue. It’s a dramatic move, but the effect? Completely transformative.

3. White, Beige, and Grey Everything

Neutrals will always have their place—but when every wall, floor, and piece of furniture is the same soft shade, things can start to feel a little... flat. We’re seeing a shift away from the all-neutral look in favor of warmth, richness, and character.

4. Mid-Century Modern Overload

We’ll always love a well-placed vintage credenza, but those sharp lines and boxy silhouettes are taking a backseat to softer, more inviting curves. 2025 is all about comfort and approachability—your home should hug you back.

Hello, 2025!

These trends are ushering in a year of warmth, individuality, and well-being.

1. Wellness-Centered Spaces

From small yoga nooks to spa-like bathrooms, design is leaning into self-care. Think calming color palettes, soft lighting, natural materials, and spaces that encourage you to slow down and breathe.

2. Retro and Vintage Vibes

We're not talking about a full-on time warp—but incorporating vintage pieces and retro influences is a great way to add personality and depth. Bold patterns, funky light fixtures, and one-of-a-kind finds are making their way back in.

3. Rich, Earthy Tones

Terracotta, deep olive, ochre, and clay-inspired hues are everywhere—and for good reason. These colors ground a space, adding warmth and a deep sense of calm. Perfect for making your home feel like a cozy, lived-in sanctuary.

4. Artisanal, Handcrafted Details

There’s something so special about a handmade object. Whether it’s a hand-thrown ceramic vase, a carved wood stool, or a woven wall hanging, these pieces bring authenticity, texture, and soul into a space.

Up for Debate: Minimalism vs. Maximalism

If you’ve been scrolling design TikTok or Instagram, you’ve probably noticed the tug-of-war between two very different aesthetics.

On one end: Maximalism, with its bold colors, layered patterns, and “more is more” energy.

On the other: Minimalism, where calm color palettes, clean lines, and intentional simplicity still hold strong.

So, what’s the verdict?

My take? (thanks for asking!): There’s room for both. The best designs reflect your personality, not the trends. If a calm, uncluttered space helps you feel more at ease—embrace it. If color and pattern bring you joy—lean into it.

Design isn't about rules. It's about creating a space that supports your life and makes you feel at home.
